How to Use This Calculator
Enter Your Age and Resting Heart Rate
Input your age to estimate maximum heart rate. If known, add your resting heart rate (measure first thing in morning) for more accurate zone calculations using the Karvonen method, which accounts for fitness level.
Choose Calculation Method
Select between the standard method (percentage of max HR) or Karvonen method (heart rate reserve). Karvonen is more accurate for trained individuals but requires knowing your resting heart rate.

Review your personalized heart rate zones from Zone 1 (recovery) through Zone 5 (maximum effort). Each zone is shown as a range in beats per minute.
Train in Appropriate Zones
Use a heart rate monitor during exercise to stay in your target zone based on workout goals. Most aerobic training should be in Zones 2-3, with limited time in Zones 4-5 for specific high-intensity work. Track trends over time as fitness improves.
