How to Use This Calculator
1
Measure Wall and Ceiling Areas
Measure length and height of each wall. Measure ceiling length and width if applicable. Record all dimensions in feet.
2
Calculate Total Square Footage
Multiply length × height for each wall, add them together. Add ceiling area if drywalling ceiling. You can subtract large openings (doors, windows) but many pros include them for waste allowance.
3
Determine Sheet Count
Enter total square footage and sheet size (typically 4' × 8' = 32 sq ft). The calculator divides total area by sheet size and adds waste factor (10-15%).
4
Calculate Additional Materials
For every 1,000 sq ft, you'll need approximately 350 feet of tape, 5 gallons of joint compound, and 1 pound of screws per sheet. Purchase corner beads for all corners.
